Today we begin a new era of global ocean exploration. The Scarlet Knight has crossed the Altantic.

Scarlet surfaced inside Spanish waters on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 8:17 GMT (3:17 am EST).

To our friends in Spain and Portugal, we look forward to seeing you in December for the recovery.

To our families back home, 201 days ago on April 27, we launched Scarlet and dedicated this mission to you. Thanks for understanding.

To our many partners on both sides of the Atlantic that made this possible, this has been a team effort that began over a decade ago.  It is success story shared by all.

Thanks to all,

The R.U. COOL Team

Let me be one of the first to congratulate you on this superb accomplishment. You have made history and you should be very proud of your efforts. To all the students who have participated in this effort over the last several years - you are part of history and are emblematic of the outstanding next generation of oceanographers. Scott, Oscar, Tina, Dave and all of the gang in Rutgers Oceanography - you tireless efforts to make this a success has been awe inspiring.

As we say in the Navy - Bravo Zulu (BZ) and Job WELL DONE. I know you are now focusing on the pick up and ensuring we don't loose Scarlet Knight to heavy shipping.

This morning I ran a STEM/LEGO Program for about 30 6-9 year olds. I was able to share your success story with them and I was able to tell them about an ex-student of mine who has turned into one of my heroes. Tina, there are at least 30 more people on the planet today who want to be like you, thanks for being an inspiration. Keep going.

Congrats to the entire RUCOOL team on making history - wow.
