Sorry for the lack of the communication, I am now in Victoria BC, so am closer to the gliders in person, and we were given a forecast by Igor “Beautiful  Dreamer” who asked “The daily averaged currents from the model show cyclonic eddy in the Bay…Are you believer or dreamer? “You might say I am a dreamer but I am not the only one…”  The RU16 shows some offshore currents however albiet at a lower speed.  The glider data however is not detided.  Igor, is the forecast the mean currents?

The gliders are flying really well.  RU05 was able to re-occupy the nothern line.  We will maintain that line, for a few transects, and then I propose a northern survey, but am open to all suggestions.  The high turbidity encountered a week ago has dissipated.  The offshore currents are strong, to the south, with weaker shelves on the inner shelf.  Mild stratification exists.

RU16 is seeing very interesting dynamics in Monterey Bay.  It is now heading offshore, after completing a cross shore transect.  The inshore areas show stratification, and there is a large surface bloom phytoplankton, The pasrticle maps show a nearshore peak, with a turbid nepheloid which has very low fluorescence in the turbid bottom layer.  If you squint REALLY hard, there might be slightly higher CDOM in the nearshore regions.  The glider will head offshore and will start to survey the outer Bay in the next few days.  We also raise a toast to the OSU and Cal-Poly team who has collected a bevy of great acoustics and bioluminscence data.
