Both gliders are flying very well. They have been making good progress. the glider to north continues its cross shore lines, slightly extended and holds position. The glider in Monterey is flying a small box to survey the bay itself.
Looking at RU05 flying north in Half Moon Bay, currents appear to southerly consistent with a California current. the current speeds are close to 25 cm/s. These currents seem uniform over the northern region that the glider is surveying. The major distinguishing feature is that the offshore waters is a about 0.5 salinity unit fresher, and this lower saline water extends to almost 30 meter water depth. The temperature of the waters are slightly higher. The offshore low saline waters have low turbidity. the higher turbidity water is associated with the nearshore waters, with a what appears to be a surface bloom extending about 30 kilometers offshore. The battom waters under this bloom also exhibit a significant nepheloid layer extending almost 20 meters into the water column.
RU 16 is flying well. We are still working on getting the optical data into a usebale form. Hopefully tomorrow. the winds are variable. Glider and M0 data look to agree reasonabely well. After completing the box, we move Ru16 into a cross-shore flight pattern to support ship operations of OSU.
